9 Simple Ideas for a More Responsible (and Just as Vibrant) Summer

What if we enjoyed summer without adding to our carbon footprint? At SAOLA, we're sharing 9 easy ways to combine pleasure, nature, and awareness.

At SAOLA, we move forward with a smile, our feet comfortable in our shoes (eco-designed, of course), and the desire to enjoy life without adding to our carbon footprint. This summer, we invite you to combine pleasure, nature, and small gestures that make a difference. Ready to get on board?

But first, what does “eco-friendly” mean to us?

It's about doing better, without complicating our lives. It's about consuming more consciously, reducing the superfluous, and cherishing what we already have. And above all, it's about moving forward together toward a future that's kinder to the planet.

1. Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

This is the foundation of any sustainable approach.
• Refuse unnecessary items (goodies, plastic bags, etc.)
• Buy less, but better
• Reuse: jars, bags, containers
• Recycle properly

Our tip : tote bag and water bottle = a great duo to always have on you.

2. Start composting

Summer is the perfect time to try composting, even in the city. Less waste, more nutrients for your plants!

How to do it?
• Collect your peelings, coffee grounds, egg shells
• Add “brown”: dead leaves, unprinted cardboard, dry grass
• Ventilate once a week, maintain a good humidity/dryness balance

👉 In a few months: homemade compost that will make your plants happy

3. Reduce your energy consumption

The days are long, the light is there: we might as well make the most of it.
• Hang your laundry in the sun
• Unplug unused chargers
• Open the windows instead of turning on the air conditioning

Bonus tip: program your devices for off-peak hours!

4. Save water, indoors and out

Water is becoming scarce, so every drop counts.
• Water early in the morning or after sunset
• Install a rainwater collector
• Leave the grass a little taller so it retains moisture better

Shower side: an economical shower head = up to 60% less water, without sacrificing any comfort.

5. Test plogging

A mix between “jogging” and “picking up litter”, plogging is THE good way to do good for your body… and the planet!
• Set yourself a goal (e.g.: 10 pieces of waste per outing)
• Take a reusable bag
• Share your sessions in stories or invite your friends to join the movement

6. Choose the paddle over the motor

Want to explore rivers or the seaside? Kayaking, paddleboarding, or canoeing is fun, quiet, and emission-free.
• Rent locally, if possible
• Remember your water bottle and eco-friendly sunscreen
• And above all: we observe the wildlife, but we don't disturb it

7. Build an insect hotel

A simple gesture to support pollinators near your home. Plus, it's a fun DIY project to do with the family.

Material :
• Bamboo or hollow stems
• Drilled logs
• Small pieces of wood, pine cones

Construction :
• Cut the stems into 10 to 15 cm pieces
• Assemble them in a tight bundle in a wooden box
• Place the whole thing horizontally, in a sunny corner, sheltered from the rain

Bonus: you directly help local biodiversity!

8. Travel differently

A summer in slow travel mode is possible (and super cool).
• Use public transport or the train
• Choose committed accommodations and guides
• Avoid high season and crowded places
• Bring your sustainable essentials: water bottle, cutlery, tote bag

And if you're going far, think about offsetting your emissions

9. Wear your convictions

Fashion also has its role to play.
• Opt for second hand or exchange
• Support brands that share your values (👋)
• Look for serious labels: GOTS, Fair Trade, etc.

And bonus style: vintage is always classy.

This summer, we're not looking for perfection, just progress.

At SAOLA, we move forward at our own pace, together, staying the course: living life to the fullest, impacting as little as possible. Every action counts. Every step has meaning.
So, are we embarking together on a committed, joyful, and inspiring summer? We're already on the road.
