Sneakers, trainers, shoes; many words for the same thing?
Whether you were born in the 1950s or after the 2000s, the debate remains the same. Is a sneaker a trainer, which is itself a shoe, a sneaker shoe, or a sneaker trainer?? 🤯
Sneakers, the famous term that comes directly from our American friends, is everywhere on the web and fill many of our wardrobes without even knowing it. You know it's also the kind of words that mom and dad use to try and sound "young".
Anyway, what exactly is a sneaker?
The quick definition of sneakers:
Elegant and comfortable, “sneakers” are not sports shoes, at least not primarily designed for support and shock absorption. Sneakers, in general, are actually sneaker-style shoes, which means "non-sport" shoes worn in daily life. Why? Because it's fashionable and we feel great in them of course! Basically, a basketball sneaker is a shoe for…basketball, well-spotted. Over time, the term evolved to describe athletic shoes. Basketball sneakers therefore qualifies city shoes that have a sporty appearance, for everyday use. Are you still with us? 😂
And what about Saola in all of this?
At SAOLA, we decided to call our sneakers shoes (or you can call them basketball sneakers if you prefer) by the names of heavenly destinations, well destinations that make us dream, even if paradise doesn't always involve palm trees and coconuts.
As a result, our ecological shoes are not meant for sports activities but rather for everyday use, going to work, shopping, or simply relaxing at home. Moreover, with their unique style, our mission is not to imitate what others are doing or be as competitive as possible. We only want to design sneakers that are rooted in our values: vegan, responsible, ethical and ecological shoes .
What values do our sneakers embody?
In our minds, SAOLA encompasses both the design and development of sneakers that respect the environment, as well as the commitment to improve the production process. We want to drastically reduce the impact of the footwear industry, year after year. We take pride in crafting ethical and sustainable shoe models from recycled plastic bottles, seaweed, cork and organic cotton. And we don't use any animal products, we prefer vegan leather 😂.
