There are many ways you can make your daily life more eco-friendly. From the moment you wake up to the end of the day, there are alternatives. The good news is that these are very simple actions that anyone can implement !
Below are six of them! Of course, all of these actions should be performed while wearing your SAOLA eco-friendly shoes. Not a fool.
1 | A day always begins with a journey.
You can replace most of your car journeys with public transport, carpooling, or cycling when it's accessible. It's worth noting that more than 60% of transport CO2 emissions are caused by cars. Most cities offer eco-friendly transport alternatives (electric bike rentals, bus and metro networks) and some support (free "Vélib" for young Parisians, government assistance for the purchase of an electric bike up to €250).
For the more adventurous and thrill-seekers, new means of transport are emerging with the appearance of the OneWheel, the skateboard (Evolve, ElwingBoard) or even the more popular electric scooter.
Here in SAOLA, we favor public transportation to preserve our beautiful city and our planet. Guillaume comes by electric scooter , Maud by bike , Gabriella by bus ... In short, we put the car aside. Plus, we avoid traffic jams.
2 | A little coffee and let's go!
After arriving at the office, our first instinct is to make a coffee to start the day off right, right?
So don't hesitate to suggest a filter or bean-to-cup machine to replace your capsule machine . These have an average environmental impact of 10 times greater than a traditional machine. Every year, 9 billion capsules are sold worldwide (that's a lot of coffee!) and represent 40,000 tons of waste. Only a portion of these capsules are recycled since they are not made solely of aluminum (which is infinitely recyclable).
In our premises, there is a bean-to-cup coffee machine because we are all in the same dynamic!
3 | 10am break is a must?! Don't forget your water bottle!
83% of French people regularly consume water in plastic bottles. These bottles represent a daily degradation of our planet. The solution: use a reusable water bottle to avoid buying plastic bottles.
At SAOLA, everyone receives a free reusable Hydroflask upon arrival. This way, every employee and intern strives to minimize their impact on the environment.
4 | A quick sort of emails before eating.
We're talking about it more and more, but it's true that sending and storing emails produces a lot of CO2. With 10 billion emails sent per hour worldwide , it's important to limit unnecessary emails as much as possible, or to store thousands of emails that you'll never read. It's worth noting that sending around thirty emails per day over a year is equivalent to a 300-400km car journey.
You can then try software that allows employees to gather in a conversation (Teams, Trello, Discord, etc.)
Fast responses, less environmental impact, everyone wins.
5 | It's time to eat!
Just like water bottles, you can replace plastic packaging with reusable boxes, mainly made of glass. This allows you, on the one hand, not to waste your meal from the day before, but also to avoid buying a meal every day and using materials that are harmful to the environment . There are lunchboxes in all colors and for all tastes!
Don't hesitate to take an interest in Batch Cooking , this allows you to prepare all your meals for the week in advance and therefore frees up time every evening.
6 | And what about our waste? Where do we put it?
In France, 48% of people think about sorting their waste at home every day. We're clearly on the right track! This figure is increasing every year (and we're not going to stop there!).
But why stop at home when some simple actions can be as simple as that? Add different colored bins for each employee. You can also consider a small compost bin if the space allows. That way, each piece of waste has its own place.
Of course, this list isn't exhaustive. There are countless quick, effective methods and solutions that can help preserve our planet! This is what we strive for at all costs here at SAOLA.
Our goal: to reduce our environmental impact on a daily basis . Please let us know if you liked this article and join us on our social networks for more tips and to share your own. :)
